Rainbow Fish Fine Motor Shape Art

Rainbow Fish Fine Motor Shape Art

Last year during our Shape week, we did this Fine Motor Rainbow shape art and it was an absolute hit. I wanted to try to incorporate some fun shape learning into our Pet week and this impromptu take on our shape art from last year was born.

It is really simple to put together and uses things you have around the house. Affiliate links are provided for your convenience.

Start by taking a paper towel (I used Bounty last year and a cheap generic brand this time and they both worked the same) and draw your design you want to cut out on it, in our case I drew out a fish shape. Cut it out.

Using different colored markers, draw different shapes all over the paper towel fish. I also added little squiggly lines for added rainbow effect.

Place it on a tray (to catch the water) and set out a bowl of water and a pipette. This year we used this pipette and this set , but last year we used an old medicine dropper pipette because it was all I had on hand and it worked out great too.

Model using the pipette to gather water. Call out a shape, have your little one point to it, and then add water to the shape and watch the color run. Call out another shape and and another and watch the colors begin to run together and create a rainbow fish.

The oohing and ahhing is so worth the 5 minutes of setup.

This activity is so much fun and pairs perfectly with the book Rainbow Fish.
