Paper Plate Tissue Paper Sun Craft

Oh Mister Sun, Sun, Mr. Paper Plate Sun. Please shine down on me!!! Do you ever have an activity in mind that you think is great and then your little ones want to do something totally different and it turns out even better? That is totally what happened with this project and she had a blast putting it together.

This was our first time working with tissue paper. The original plan was for her to just add tissue paper squares to a paper plate and then give it a face. As she was adding the tissue paper we were talking about how we were making a funny sun man, but how the sun really doesn’t have a face. She immediately asked to add arms and legs and hands and feet. She caught me off guard, but since we wanted to make sure it was dry first, it gave me a couple hours to think of how we would add arms and legs. TO CREATE:

Start out by cutting or ripping yellow tissue paper into small pieces. I had these pre cut, but having your little one rip them up would be a perfect fine motor activity.

Give your child a paper plate and have them glue the tissue paper squares all over the plate. The purple Elmer’s glue sticks work great for little ones because they are able to see where they have applied glue before.

Once the paper plate was dry we let it sit a couple hours to be sure the tissue paper wouldn’t fall off. I cut out some white circles for eyes, paper strips for arms and legs, which Little Miss folded accordion style, and then some simple hands and feet shapes. At first Little Miss only asked for legs, but once the legs were on she realized it needed arms to be complete so I made some arms for her as well. She glued all these pieces on and then stood back to take a look at her work.
