Our Mommy and Me Book Club for the month featured Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site and a whole lot of construction themed fun and snacks.
When our friends arrived they were met with this fun sign on our front door. We wanted to make sure that everyone stayed out of the centers we had set up until everyone got there so we guided them into our living room where I had some tinker toys and Mr. Potato Heads set up for the kids to build.
We also set up some caution tape and this sign to tape off the playroom where everything was set up and to guide them to the learning site, which was our living room and where we read the story.
We started off by singing some songs to get our wiggles out and then read the story, Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site.
By the time the story was done, the kids were starting to get hungry so we proceeded to one part of our snack. The kids were given some grapes and toothpicks and they created grape structures. We had some spiders, and dinosaurs, and giraffes created and then the kids ate their creations.
After snack, we made our way to the build site.
We didn’t have enough hammers to all complete this at once so we separated into groups and the toddlers, who happened to be all girls, used the hammers and pounded some golf tees into some pieces of styrofoam while the little boys (1 year olds) built with our Melissa and Dough Wooden blocks. After a little bit they switched and got to do the opposite activity.
From the building station we moved on to the dig site, where the kids got to dig and play in a rock and construction vehicle sensory bin.
We finished the day off by eating some “dirt.” I gave each child a cookie inside a sandwich baggie and we brainstormed ways we could smash the cookie. They all decided that the hammers would work the best. They crushed the cookies and then dumped them on top of some pudding. We all agreed it was some pretty tasty “dirt”
It was such a fun day to get together with friends and have fun. We can’t wait until next month’s book club.
