One of my absolute favorite things to do with my kids is to have themed family movie nights. We are not a big tv watching family (we only watch one movie a week if that), but any chance I have to make it fun and thematic I do. We also love to have movie nights to end a unit of study or after a read aloud that has a movie to go along with it.
When we finished our Charlotte's Web read aloud and Charlotte's Web unit study, we had a Charlotte's Web themed movie night, complete with decorations and festive food.
Rules For Family Movie Night
There are a couple "rules" that I follow for family movie nights.
1. We have to have themed food. Whether this be something they ate in the book or movie, or something that goes along with the overall theme of them, themed food is a must.
2. I like to decorate at least a little bit. I personally love to go all out on decorating, but sometimes it's just not possible. If I don't have any decorations that go along with the theme, I will at the very least grab a tablecloth and some colorful plates and silverware and use those.
3. Do some fun hands on activities. I tend to hold onto a craft or two from our lessons/unit studies to do during the day. I will often also incorporate whatever craft or activity we do into the decor or dinner for the day.
Charlotte's Web Family Movie Night Menu
The themed food we had for our Charlotte's Web Movie Night included the following:
- Wilbur Pancakes & Bacon
- "Pop" Corn on the Cob
- Award Winning Apple Pie
- Templeton's Deviled Eggs
Charlotte's Web Family Movie Night Decorations
For decorations, I taped a spider web onto the wall and used a spider bag craft that we created several years ago to represent Charlotte. I put a checkered tablecloth and napkins on the table and used red plates. Simple, yet super fun and festive.
Charlotte's Web Movie Night Crafts & Activities
For our activity, the kids created their very own spider cups to use for their drinks at dinner.
Charlotte's Web Unit Study
If you are looking for a unit study to do alongside your Charlotte's Web read aloud, be sure to check out the Charlotte's Web Ultimate Unit study, a collaborative unit study project I have contributed to.
