Apple Themed Activity Mat

Apple Themed Activity Mat

If you have been around for any length of time, you know we absolutely love learning through play and we love to include activity mats into our learning. Miss 3 loves them and is always hoping I have a new one for her when she wakes in the morning. For our Apple Preschool unit, I whipped this mat up for her and used a lot more manipulatives than I usually do which led to hours of play even after we finished with the mat.

This mat was a bit more in depth than I usually do, but I was having fun and it's always worth the extra effort for the fun it brings the kiddos. I started out by drawing a tree and coloring it in. On the green of the tree I drew apples and wrote letters on the apples.

Name The Apples

For this activity, Miss 3 would point to an apple and say the letter name and sound. We used apple erasers to cover the letter once she said it correctly.

Sort the Apples

We used our Apple Sorting set from Learning Resources as Miss 3 sorted the apples based on different characteristics.

How Many Red Apples Are On The Tree?

I had Miss 3 count the total number of red apples on the tree. She pulled off each of the apple erasers as she counted so she didn't miss any apples.

Trace the Number 20, Letter Aa

We used our cube blocks to trace the number 20 and letter Aa. I chose to use the colors red, green, and yellow to represent apples for all of our activities.

Count It

Finally, Miss 6 used the cube blocks to practice counting to 6 and then traced the number 6.

Miss 3 had so much fun completing the activities on this mat all throughout our apple themed week.
