Salt Dough Ornaments have quickly become my favorite ornaments to make with little ones. I also love ornaments that hold a special meaning or are a keepsake, like hand/foot/fingerprint art.
This year we created Reindeer Footprint Ornaments using Little Miss’ footprint as her official ornament of 2015.
We still had a ton of dough leftover so I gave her some cookie cutters and let her make some special ornaments she could add to the tree herself.

TODDLER MADE SALT DOUGH ORNAMENTS RECIPE & DIRECTIONS:
To make the salt dough, I used one cup of flour and one cup of sugar and then about a half a cup of water. You may have to give or take a little water to get the perfect consistency for your dough. You do not want it too sticky or too dry.
We rolled the dough out and used her foot and cookie cutters to make our shapes. We then very carefully picked them up and moved them to a parchment paper covered cookie sheet.
Fingerprint Salt Dough Circles idea came from Mama, Papa, Bubba. We used salt dough instead and are turning ours into magnets.
In order to harden them, I set the oven to 200* and “baked” them for 3 hours, flipping them half way through. The key here is to dry them out, not bake them so the temperature needs to be low. When I checked on them at 3 hours they still seemed a bit damp to me so I turned the oven off and left them sit in the oven, door closed, for another 4 hours and then took them out and they were perfect.
The next day, I set up this invitation to paint for Little Miss.

She had a blast making her special ornaments her own and once they were dry I added some bakers twine to them and let her hang them on the tree.
She chose to place them all together as she did with all our other tree ornaments :)
