I am always looking for fun ways to incorporate fine motor activities into our activities and being able to tie it into the interests Little Miss has and our themes/skills we are learning is always a plus. One of the many things Little Miss is obsessed with is water and since she has taken an interest in learning about shapes I decided to put all these things together and our Paper Towel Fine Motor Shape Art was born.
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
(affiliate links provided for your convenience)
-Paper towels
-Water in a cup
-tray with sides
DIRECTIONS:
Grab a paper towel (doesn’t matter what brand) and use markers (I used Mr. Sketch) and draw all of the shapes onto it to fill up the paper towel.
Our pipettes were still being shipped when we did this activity, so we improvised and used some medicine droppers to add the water to the paper towels.
I would call out a shape and Little Miss would have to point to it first and say its name. Once she did this I showed her how to fill the dropper with water and she would squirt the water onto the shape. We repeated this until all of the shapes were covered.
She loved how the colors would start to run and finished off by adding more water to get them to run all together.
