Shape Themed Tot & Fine Motor Trays

These shape themed tot school trays are great for fine motor practice for the littlest learners. Toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy learning their shapes with these hands on tot trays as part of tot school. So many great tot school ideas.
It is so nice to be back to a some what normal routine again with tot school. Last week we explored and learned all about shapes and by the end of the week had a pretty good grasp on the names of all of the most basic shapes. Like Color week, we had many tot tray activities that were on repeat all throughout the week.

Most of the Tot tray activities we used this week were accessible to Little Miss all throughout the week so that she could go back to her favorites. These are the ones we used this week with affiliate links to some of the products we used.

Melissa & Doug Shape Puzzles are the perfect tot tray activity for learning and practicing shapes.
Melissa & Doug Shape Puzzle: Little Miss got this one for her birthday and instantly became fascinated with shapes. She absolutely loves this puzzle and likes to tell us the shapes and which picture underneath that they go with. This particular puzzle is a sound puzzle that says the name of the shapes. A couple weeks ago puzzles still caused great frustration for Little Miss but this past week she has really taken off and it’s become one of her new favorite things to play with. I took all the pieces out and stuck them in a wooden box from another Melissa & Doug puzzle box and set it up for her on her tray. She did the puzzle on repeat all throughout the week. You can find other Melissa & Doug Shape puzzles HERE and HERE.

The Melissa & Doug Shape Sorter is the perfect tot tray activity for learning and practicing shapes.
Melissa & Doug Shape Sorter: Little Miss has ALWAYS loved putting objects inside other objects and this toy is no different. She still has trouble putting them all in the correct holes, but she is getting there and if she can’t get it through she just opens the top and throws it in. Way to be resourceful kiddo.

These shape lacing cards are a great fine motor activity for toddlers and preschoolers. While practicing their fine motor skills, children can also practice their shapes.  Picture9
Shape Lacing Cards: I created these cards for Little Miss to practice her fine motor lacing skills. This was her first time doing a lacing activity like this and I feel she did pretty well for the first time. We practiced using different shapes all throughout the week. She loved telling me which shape she was lacing with “tring” These are part of a shape printable pack that will be available in the near future.

These shape do-a-dot/magnet pages are a great fine motor activity for toddlers and preschoolers. While practicing their fine motor skills, children can also practice their shapes.
Shape Magnetic/Do-A-Dot Pages: I created a shape dot page for every shape and also added circle magnets to the backs of a bunch of pom poms. I thought I had a nice clean cookie sheet lying around, but I did not and didn’t make it to the store to get one so we just used the magnetic pom poms and shape printable on our tray. I was so surprised with how well Little Miss did with this activity as this was her first time doing something like this.

These shape sticker pages are a great fine motor activity for toddlers and preschoolers. While practicing their fine motor skills, children can also practice their shapes.
Sticker Shapes Printable: This also will be a part of my shape printable pack coming soon. I gave Little Miss some stickers and the sheet and told her which shape we were working on and she would put the stickers on the circles. Pulling stickers from the sticker sheet can be frustrating for little ones so sticking them to the tray helps them still practice fine motor skills, but with less frustration.

These Melissa & Doug Water Wow shape cards are the perfect no mess activity for busy bags, on the go travel and more for kids.
Shape Water Wow Cards: Our Water Wow cards from Melissa & Doug made their debut again this week. I absolutely love these cards. The best part: No Mess. Definitely a must have for the busy mom.

Shape Puzzles are the perfect tot tray activity for learning and practicing shapes.
Shape Clock Puzzle: This was an impromptu activity that I didn’t even set out for Little Miss, but she snagged anyway. I do not even know where this came from (yard sale a long time ago possibly), but when I was getting our her shape puzzles this was on top and Little Miss snagged it and immediately took off for her table. She loved trying to fit the pieces in the right holes and when I showed her there was numbers on them she started counting. This shape clock puzzle is similar in concept.

Shape Puzzle Piece Playdough Stamping: This activity is the perfect tot tray idea for your toddlers and preschoolers, especially those who love playdough.  Shape Puzzle Piece Playdough Stamping: This activity is the perfect tot tray idea for your toddlers and preschoolers, especially those who love playdough.
Playdough Shape Puzzle Stamp: Little Miss wanted to play with playdough one morning and so I pulled out the pieces from some of her shape puzzles and let her use them as stamps. I would call out a shape and she would grab it and stamp it into her playdough and say its name. She was also practicing her colors by telling me the color on the shape. When I asked her what she was doing she would tell me “I stamp sheeps in paydough mama.” I guess we will be working on that long /a/ sound in the near future.
