Movement is essential for children and for many, moving can help them to focus better on their schoolwork and learning activities. Young learners also learn through play and movement. These insect movement cards are perfect for gross motor development and would be perfect to add to your insect themed learning activities.
Movement cards are perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. Just like our Farm Animal Movement cards and our Brown Bear Inspired Movement Cards, these insect movement cards are perfect for indoor and outdoor gross motor play.
Prep the Movement Cards
(These prep resources include Amazon Affiliate links for your convenience, so that you can find and reference the materials easily and quickly. This just means that my blog receives a tiny compensation if you click on these links- at no extra charge to you.)
MATERIALS YOU NEED
- Insect Gross Motor Movement Cards
- Laminator and laminating sheets
- Cube Dice or cube shaped box
To get started you will print the cards from Insect Gross Motor pdf. I like to laminate the cards for durability and then cut them out. Then you can slide them into the pockets of the cube dice or attach them to the sides of a cube shaped box.
How to Play
Once your cards and dice are prepped game play is super simple. The child will toss the cube and follow the directions on the cube. If they are unable to read, read the card to them and then have them complete the task on the card. Some of the examples of things on the cards are flutter like a butterfly, slither like a slug, and creep like a spider.
Not only will they have fun moving like all of the insects, but they will have fun tossing the cube. There are enough cards to fill several different cubes, but we only play with one cube at a time. I like to have all three cubes ready to go.
While a cube like box will work to tape these cards to, these differentiated activity cubes are reusable and, in my opinion, a must have in any early childhood classroom setting or home. They are so versatile and so easy to use. They can be reused over and over again which makes them well worth purchasing.
All movement cards I have created fit perfectly in these cubes, but like previously mentioned can be taped to a cardboard box if that is all you have. The cubes are worth the investment.
