The "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A ____" series is a favorite among many especially in the early childhood learning environments. These books are wonderful for working on sequencing. During our Frog week in tot school and preschool, we worked on sequencing with these fun activities that went along with the book "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog" by Lucille Colandro.
Old Lady Sequencing Activities
Each of the Old Lady Frog Sequencing Activities included in this set are to be used after reading the book "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog." Children will love the hands-on way to practice sequencing the events from the story.
For all activities included in this post, you will need the printables from my There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog Sequencing Activity Pack and the book.
Sequencing Hat
Who want's a worksheet, when you can have a fun hat instead? My kids absolutely love any of our hat sequencing activities we have and love to wear their work around to show what they know/have learned.
For this activity, you will simply print the hat template and the sequencing cards and then children will cut out the hat and cards and glue them in order onto the hat according to how they happened in the story.
Feed the Old Lady Sequencing
For this activity, you will want a box of some nature, something to cut a hole, and the Old Lady Head printable and the cards to go along with it.
You will adhere the old lady head to a box and cut out the old lady's mouth back into the box so that you now have a hole for children to place the cards into. Students will use the printable sequencing cards and "feed" the old lady the different items from the story, in the order that she swallowed them.
Matching Sequencing Cards
This sequencing activity can be used a several different ways.
- You can print out the number mat and picture sequencing cards, cut them all apart, and match them together like a matching game or you can match them together in a pocket chart like seen in the picture.
- You can keep the number mat whole and then attach velcro dots to the picture cards and number mat and match them up that way.
